Solar Cells on a House

Eaga Canada is collaborating with the BC Sustainable Energy
Association to support the development of solar hot water industry
through SolarBC.

SolarBC

Eaga Canada was selected by Natural Resources Canada to implement their large scale Residential Solar Hot Water Pilot initiative, in 2008. To deliver the project, Eaga is collaborating with the BC Sustainable Energy Association on their SolarBC program.

SolarBC’s goal is to encourage people to be less reliant on fossil fuels, and to tap into the free energy provided by the sun. Right now, solar is the leading alternative-energy industry in the world. Germany has installed over 150,000 solar hot water systems to date, while California has set a goal of a million solar roofs by 2017. Austria, Spain, China and many other countries are pioneering solar hot water as a viable, secure, reliable energy supply. B.C. has great potential to join this prestigious group.

The program includes six projects for individual homes, solar communities, government buildings, First Nations, social housing, and schools. For homeowners, there are up to $3,250 incentives available to help with the cost of installation. Along with eight outstanding Solar Communities, all levels of government, non-profits and industry stakeholders are collaborating to make solar hot water commonplace in the province. SolarBC aims to see solar technology installed on 100,000 roofs by 2020.

SolarBC is sponsored by the Province of British Columbia and is part of the province’s Energy Plan and the Climate Action Management Plan.
