Eaga Partners Going to Africa

Emily Kendy and Edwina (Kaye) Bedford are two of 30 Eaga Partners that were recently selected to volunteer in Africa. They will be embarking on an adventure of a lifetime to help renovate school buildings in the remote Tanzanian village of Lotima.

The 30 volunteers have been split into two groups of 15 volunteers that were chosen against hundreds of applicants in Eaga for their skills and as part of a “Future Leader” staff development program. The participating Partners will be donating their efforts for two weeks in the rural African village.

They will be volunteering in partnership with Childreach International, which is a charity known for helping to alleviate child poverty in Africa.

The goal of the project is to rebuild parts of Lotima Primary School, in order to make education more accessible for up to 600 local children as well as providing a vital centre for the community.

Of the 7 classrooms possibly only 2 are being used to teach a total of 30-40 children only. This is because the toilets are blocked and the govt has closed the majority of the school down until the community repairs the toilets. The Community has no money as most of Tanzania has been in drought in 2009 and the locals are struggling more than most to make ends meet. Nearest water source is 4km away which takes 30 minutes to walk each way. The school has been offered money by a local businessman to install water access and this may become a part of the project. Children will travel up to 5km to get to this school if it was re-opened and fully functional.

If you are wondering how you can get on board with our courageous volunteers, you can help support them with your generous donations.
